Among the actions of LIFE EcotimberCell project have recently concluded the work of study and improvement of the hardboard made of wood waste fibers (TABLEX), an integral and fundamental element in the construction systems developed in the project, which stands out as a 100% biodegradable product in which the wood lignin itself works as a natural adhesive for the wood fibers union, avoiding the artificial binders use typical in other wood boards.
The detailed knowledge of the properties of the board is a fundamental activity for the correct development of the EcoTimberCell and EcoTimberCell+, as well as the rest of the products derived from it that will lead to the ETC Home, modular houses that promote the demand for local wood from sustainable forest management.
The partners in this project, University of Santiago de Compostela, the company Betanzos HB, CETEMAS research centre, ITEC institute and the company 3edata are working on the development of the actions that will lead to obtaining a fibreboard adapted to EcoTimberCell structural systems with improved mechanical, moisture and fire resistance qualities.
For a board in-depth knowledge, it is necessary to carry out a complete characterization campaign that includes tests to determine the physical and mechanical properties.
In Board HB Catalogue is presented a summary of the characterization works carried out on the Tablex board, as well as the main results obtained, covering the following properties:
- Thermal conductivity,
- Water vapour permeability,
- Mechanical characteristics (resistance and rigidity to flexion, traction, shear and compression).
The results reflected in this report are the result of the work carried out within the scope of LIFE EcoTimberCell project and through this catalogue are made available to the general public for greater knowledge about the TABLEX board, its applicability in structural elements for construction and how to move towards EcoTimberCell modular systems.
